About the Association: For many years, it had been a tradition in the Eifel village of Düngenheim to stage a children’s play during the pre-Christmas season. The local community of Düngenheim had previously engaged the “Wittener Kindertheater” for this purpose. The community then came up with the idea of putting on a play featuring “local” actors. Thus, in the spring of 2010, at the initiative of Franz-Josef Weiler and Gerhard Kaiser—and with the prior approval and support of Ewald Franz—interested residents came together. This led to the formation of a group of children, teenagers, and adults who, in December 2010, performed the play “Teddy’s Christmas Odyssey” by Angelika Bartram to a sold-out hall. The following year, the number of performances was increased from one to three under the patronage of the local community. The overwhelmingly positive response and the desire to operate independently led us to establish an independent, registered association in May 2012 under the name “Spielzeit Düngenheim.”
