Digi-Pfad im Kaulenbachtal
Description
Discover the Kaulenbach Valley through a digital journey through time that combines history, nature and technology thanks to the new digital nature trail.
Welcome to the Kaulenbach Valley - a place where history, nature and digitalization come together in a fascinating way.
The Kaulenbach Valley was once one of the most famous slate mining areas in the slate mountains on the left bank of the Rhine. Top-quality roofing slate was mined here until 1959. However, due to a water ingress at the Maria-Schacht mine, mining had to be stopped. Since then, the Kaulenbach valley has developed into a refuge for rare and endangered animal and plant species.
To enable visitors to experience the history and beauty of the Kaulenbach Valley up close, something very special is now being created in collaboration with the Verein zur Erhaltung der Schieferbergbaugeschichte e. V. (Association for the Preservation of Slate Mining History): the digital nature trail, or Digi-Pfad for short.
The approximately 4 km long hike becomes an interactive journey of discovery with the "Actionbound" app on your smartphone. Exciting content awaits you at 11 stations: historical photos, audio clips, quizzes and small estimation tasks. Sometimes they tell of the hard everyday life of the miners, sometimes they offer fascinating insights into the nature that characterizes the valley today. In this way, the knowledge collected over decades by the Verein zur Erhaltung der Schieferbergbaugeschichte e. V. (Association for the Preservation of Slate Mining History) is preserved for the future.
Come along to the Kaulenbach Valley - and embark on a digital journey through time that combines nature, culture and adventure!
And this is how it works: To play a Bound, you need the free Actionbound app for your smartphone or tablet. Find the Bound's starting QR code (e.g. scroll down to the image gallery here on the website), scan it with the app and the Bound will start.
Alternatively, you can click on "Search" in the Actionbound app and enter "Kaulenbachtal". Both Bounds to the Digi-Path in Kaulenbachtal (Leienkaul entry point and Müllenbach/Laubach entry point) will appear - select your Bound and you can click on "Start". If the content has been downloaded beforehand, the Bound can also be played offline.
