Guided group adventure hike "Heaven and Earth"
From slate mining to the Maria Martental monastery

The guided group adventure hike "Himmel und Erd" (Heaven and Earth) brings history to life at first hand. From the "earth", the former slate mine, the route leads to the "heaven", the impressive Maria Martental monastery, which has already been visited by numerous pilgrims. Food and drink are also catered for - after the varied hike, you can treat yourself to slate wine and regional specialties in one of the restaurants.

The guided group hike is led by a guide from the Verein zur Erhaltung der Schieferbergbaugeschichte e.V. (Association for the Preservation of Slate Mining History). It begins in Müllenbach at the cultural center and stretches along a scenic route lined with old slate mines, tunnel entrances, building remains and the highest slate dump in Germany to the steep slate wall in the Kaulenbach valley.
The second part of the hike continues through the romantic valley of the "Wilde Endert" with its lively stream. Passing the "Die Rausch " waterfall, you cross the Endert and hike up to the pilgrimage church and Maria Martental monastery with a monastic tradition dating back over 800 years. A guide from the monastery will welcome you and tell you about the impressive history of the order, the monastery and the pilgrimage church.

Tip: After this eventful hike, you can end the day with regional specialties at one of the refreshment stops in Schieferland Kaisersesch (Waldhotel KurfürstRestaurant - Ferienhaus Zur Kringelwies, Gasthaus zur Post in Landkern).
