Digi-Pfad im Kaulenbachtal
Leienkaul
Welcome to the Kaulenbach Valley - a place where history, nature and modern technology come together in a fascinating way.
The Kaulenbach Valley was once one of the most famous slate mining areas in the slate mountains on the left bank of the Rhine. Top-quality roofing slate was mined here until 1959. However, due to a water ingress at the Maria-Schacht mine, mining was discontinued. The Kaulenbach valley then developed into a refuge for rare and endangered animal and plant species.
To enable visitors to experience the history and beauty of the Kaulenbach Valley up close, something very special is now being created: the digital nature trail, or Digi-Pfad for short.
With an app on a smartphone, the approximately 5 km-long hike becomes an interactive journey of discovery. Exciting content opens up at 12 stations: historical photos, videos, audio clips, quizzes or small estimation tasks. Sometimes there are stories about the hard everyday life of the miners, sometimes fascinating insights into the nature that characterizes the valley today.
Thanks to GPS, the right content always appears exactly where you are - without the need for a mobile network. A QR code at the starting point (access routes from Leienkual, Müllenbach and Laubach) is all you need to download the app and all the content. This turns every hike into a very individual experience.
Come to the Kaulenbach Valley - and embark on a digital journey through time that combines nature, culture and adventure!
